TIP: In traditional Chinese culture, blind date was a common practice to make a boyfriend or a girlfriend. This was because Chinese people were introverted and shy. They didn’t have many social activities, nor did they have many opportunities to make friends with opposite sex. As a result, when they reached the age for marriage, some relatives, senior family members or friends would act as matchmakers and introduce them to friends of opposite sex. After several dates, if the two persons liked each other, they would establish a love relationship. In modern times, with most young people becoming more and more extroverted and benefiting from the Internet, they have more opportunities to make girlfriends or boyfriends. So, blind date has gradually become outdated.

在中国传统文化中，相亲是结交异性朋友的一个普遍做法。这是因为中国人比较内向、害羞，社交活动较少，结交异性的机会也比较少。于是，当到了谈婚论嫁的年龄，总会有亲戚长辈或朋友充当媒人的角色，为他们介绍合适的异性朋友。两个人经过几次约会，如果都比较喜欢对方，就发展成为男女朋友。现代绝大多数年轻人都越来越开朗，并且得益于网络，年轻人有机会认识很多异性朋友，因此相亲也慢慢过时了。
