Mandarin School | Halloween in China (万圣节 Wànshèngjié)Follow Us ☝ The day before Halloween, on October 31 every year, is a traditional holiday in the Western world. The celebration is usually held in the evening. It is mainly popular in Western countries such as the United States, the British Isles, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Pumpkins are used to carve interesting faces and shapes to ward off evil spirits. At that night, children will put on costumes and masks and go from house to house collecting candy. In China, we call it Halloween(万圣节 Wànshèngjié). Traditional Chinese people used to not celebrate Halloween. But in recent years, as Chinese people go out more and get in touch with Western culture, Halloween has become more and more popular among Chinese people. Halloween in China is more like a party day. Large amusement parks such as Happy Valley, Disney and Fonte have launched Halloween activities in recent years, and there will be ghosts walking at night in the amusement parks every year. Many Chinese people wear Halloween costumes, Halloween masks, Halloween pumpkins and all kinds of Halloween props to express their inner enthusiasm and excitement and to relax themselves.
